Football career
FK Rad is the club where Mirkovi? began his professional career on March 3, 1991 (Proleter 2:1 Rad). But even before that he and his team mates won the Yugoslav title in the under 21 category, the biggest success this club ever had. Mirkovi? spent three seasons in Rad as a professional player, and all together played 62 games (five in 1990/1991 season, 26 in 1991/1992 season and 31 in 1992/1993 season), scoring a goal. His talent didn't go unnoticed by Partizan officials and they invited him to defend black and white colors.
Mirkovi? always describes the three years he spent in Partizan as the most beautiful years of his career and says Partizan is the club he loves the most. In those three years he established himself as a player, became a first choice player in Yugoslav national team and won three titles (Yugoslav Championship 1993/1994 and 1994/1995 and Yugoslav Cup 1993/94). He wore the number 2 jersey. He became a hero of Partizan fans because he is such a fighter, because of all the Crvena Zvezda players he had beaten up and because he, in those difficult times (war and sanctions) upheld his obligations towards Partizan and stayed for all three years stipulated in his contract. He played 82 games in Partizan jersey (26 in 1993/1994 season, 29 in 1994/1995 season and 27 in 1995/1996 season), scoring one goal.
Mirkovi? spent two seasons with Atalanta Bergamo. He got injured in the first game in Serie A league and had to take a three month break. He played a role of midfielder/defender and his performance was so good that the then Juventus coach Marcello Lippi invited him to join Juve. He was very popular among the Atalanta fans and when the club wanted to sell him to Fiorentina hell almost break loose.
Mirkovi?'s career in Juventus can be divided in two different periods. Under coach Lippi, Bata played 19 Serie A games, scoring one goal. He also played UEFA Champions League matches. When Carlo Ancelotti took over in spring of 1999, Mirkovi? was no longer a first choice Juve player, playing mostly UEFA and Italian Cup matches.
Mirkovi? signed a three year contract with Fenerbah?e. It proved to be a very smart decision indeed. In his first season in Istanbul he won a Turkish League title and was a finalist in Turkish Cup. In his second season in Turkey he played Champions League and came second in Turkish League. His third season in Fenerbah?e was not so successful. Three coaches and problems in the club caused Fenerbah?e to end the season in the sixth place.
Then in January 2004, following a 6-month break from football, Mirkovi? became Partizan player again. He signed a contract for two and a half years.
Mirkovi? was a first choice player for Serbia and Montenegro where he usually played right back position and wore the number 2 jersey. He played 59 games with the national A team. He was a participant in the 1998 World Cup in France but a three-game ban by UEFA prevented him from participating in Euro 2000.
On March 6, 2006, Mirkovic announced his retirement due to a recurring back injury at the age of 34.

The German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency (German: Schzenschnur) is a decoration of the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The decoration is awarded to all German military personnel, but is only allowed to be worn by enlisted members. Under the German armed forces regulations officers are not permitted to wear the award, but they may qualify for and receive it as a keepsake only. Foreign military members also may be awarded the badge, the German military regulation on officers still applies, permitting only the enlisted members to wear the badge.
In the United States military the German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency (Schzenschnur) is one of the few approved foreign awards.
To earn the award one must successfully shoot the German service rifle (G36), pistol (P8) and machine gun (MG3). The awarded grade is determined by the overall score.
Classes / Grades
German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency in Bronze (Schzenschnur in Bronze) is awarded for shooting with the rifle and the pistol with a score in at least bronze.
The category of heavy weapons (most commonly the machine gun) is not mandatory to earn the bronze badge. Rifle an Pistol have to have at least a score in bronze.
German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency in Silver (Schzenschnur in Silber) is awarded for shooting with all of the weapons with a score at least in silver
German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency in Gold (Schzenschnur in Gold) is awarded for shooting with all or one of the weapons with a score at least in gold
Design
The Army and Air Forces version of the award is a silver colored rope with a round metal badge on a flat end near the top of the rope, on its center it displays the German eagle surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves.
The Navy version of the award looks the same except the rope's color is navy blue.

The Montana Meth Project (MMP)(also known as the Montana Myth Project) is a Montana-based organization founded by billionaire Thomas Siebel which seeks to reduce methamphetamine abuse by using propoganda techniques popularized by the Nazi party in 30's, particularly among teenagers. The main venture of the MMP is a saturation-level advertising campaign of television, radio, and print ads which very graphically and overdramatically depict the consequences of methamphetamine use. Common elements are the deterioration of each teenage subject's health and living conditions, amphetamine psychosis, moral compromise, and regret. The effectiveness of the campaign at reducing methamphetamine use is disputed.

Effectiveness
The Meth Project Foundation (MPF) claims that since the inception of the program in 2005, Montana has seen a 45% decrease in teen methamphetamine use, a 72% decrease in adult methamphetamine use(disputed, the advertising campaign cannot claim to be the direct cause when so many other variables are involved..i.e. stricter guidelines, lack of precursor availability, etc), and a 62% decline in methamphetamine-related crimes (bias. any crime committed, whether or not methamphetamines were a direct cause, if they were present or if known individuals involved had meth related history, is considered a "meth-related crime".) The Meth Project most recent survey shows that teen/young adult usage of meth increased and has remained above the 2005 baseline usage level. From the MMP's Use & Attitudes Survey of 2008:

Office of National Drug Control Policy report
In November 2006, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) published a report, Pushing Back Against Meth: A Progress Report on the Fight, highlighting the impact of recently enacted State and Federal laws, such as the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act (CMEA) of 2005, that restricted transactions for the over the counter drugs that can be used to manufacture methamphetamine. Based on the results of Quest Diagnostics' preliminary review of workplace drug tests conducted during the first five months of 2006, the nationwide adult usage of meth declined by 12% when compared to the same period in 2005. Quest provided state-level results: on the state level, results varied according to the strictness and duration of the states' laws. "Montana methamphetamine precursor law went into effect July 1st 2005. The Montana law is stricter than the CMEA in several important respects." Montana workplace drug testing results showed a 69.4% decrease in positive tests for amphetamine. Montana's Attorney General and the MMP attribute Montana's decrease in adult meth usage to the MMP. However, the ONDC reported: "The primary reason for this positive trend is the enactment of various State laws...which implemented restrictions on transactions involving products containing certain chemicals (primarily, ephedrine and pseudoephedrine) that can be used to make methamphetamine."
Prevention Science critical review
A critical review of the Montana Meth Project's advertising campaign was published in the peer-review journal Prevention Science in December 2008. The review examined the Meth Project's statistical methodology and data reporting. The review found that the Meth Project had selectively reported their research findings (very obviously....doing bad in the name of good is still doing bad), focusing on unrepresentative positive findings and ignoring data suggesting that the campaign may be associated with harmful outcomes. The review found that the Meth Project's data suggests that exposure to the graphic ads may lead to an increase in the percentage of teenagers who believe that taking meth is socially acceptable and not dangerous. Such 'boomerang' effects in response to persuasive, graphic ads are not uncommon, and are predicted by the theory of psychological reactance.
Government funding and expansion
Many in the Montana state legislature hailed the project as an unprecedented success, and moved to fund the previously privately-funded project with tax dollars. The move to provide public funding for the Meth Project was opposed by some legislators and drug prevention and treatment professionals, who asserted that the Meth Project's effectiveness is unproven and that research shows that these type of media campaigns are...(and so on)

Ana Boulain was born in Lisbon, Portugal. She lived in Madrid, Spain, between 1983 and 1997.
In Madrid, she had the opportunity of being closely involved with the work of some illustrious Portuguese painters, namely Lena Liz, Luis Pinto Coelho, Jacinto Luis and Celeste Maia, who had a marked influence in her growth as a painter as well as technique.
Ana Boulain attended the Art Academy of the Spanish Master, Manuel Arjona, with whom she worked closely. She participated in several collective exhibitions and won several awards which included a First Prize of the Academy. At this stage, her main focus was on oil painting.
In 1997 Ana moved to South Africa. Two years later she attended the Open Window Art Academy in Pretoria where she explored many techniques within the fields of Fine Arts and Printing. In 1999 and 2000, her works were selected to be part of the annual collective exhibitions that took place in the Academy Art Gallery.
A totally new range of influences soared into her style, coming mainly from lecturers and other South African artists she had the opportunity to meet with. Artists such as Chris Diedericks, Diane Victor, Siobhan McCuster, Michelle Krieke, the illustrator Sonija Hendrikse and the renowned South African artist from the Northern Cape Penelope Siopis had a strong influence on her work.
Ana works are shown in several private and public collections around the world. Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Mozambique, South Africa, Guatemala, Guinea-Bissau, Norway and now are already in the United States of America.
One of her most recent commissions was a special work dedicated to Nelson adiba Mandela. The work entitled ife is displayed at the elson Mandela Institute by the request of the Embassy of Portugal as a contribution from the Portuguese Community residing in South Africa.
Since coming to the United States in August 2004, Ana continues her work and is excited by the new challenges and callings that the American Art market presents.
Artist's Perspective
Her artwork translates her journey throughout the world.
In Portugal, where Ana Boulain started to paint, she was fascinated with the clean, simple lines of traditional architecture of the churches and chapels of the south of Portugal where the white and blue are the predominant colors.
Then in Spain she started to approach the human figure which captivated her for being so much alive. The opportunity to express feelings, movements and color, encouraged her to keep painting. By always focusing on the best techniques, this would aid her in expressing what she could see through human nature and the circumstances in which it exists.
While in South Africa, these turned to be even more intriguing. She loves to paint the African skin and explore their rich color and the texture and shape of their hair. Being in the heart of Africa, her approach to the African reality touched her sensibility and she decided to paint their struggle through life.
Now in the United States of America, she is looking forward to new challenges.

Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, often referred to as simply Captain Scarlet, is a science fiction television series produced by the Century 21 Productions Television company of Gerry Anderson, John Read, Reg Hill and Sylvia Anderson. It was first shown in the United Kingdom (originally on ATV Midlands, but later the whole of the UK) between September 1967 and May 1968. It used puppetry (Supermarionation) and scale model special effects.
The series is one of several of popular science-fiction TV adventure series the Andersons produced in the 1960s, beginning with Supercar and followed by Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, Joe 90, and the little-seen The Secret Service. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons was the first series made after the international success of Thunderbirds in 1964-66.

Synopsis
On a mission to Mars in 2068, a Mysteron installation is attacked and destroyed by a team of three Earth explorers, including Captain Black, leading the Mysterons to declare a "War of Nerves" on Earth. The Mysterons have the ability to replicate and then control any person or object they first kill or destroy, through their power of "retro-metabolism". They use this power to conduct a war of terror against Earthrimarily aimed at the world leaders, major cities, industrial and defence establishments, and, of course, "Spectrum" and its airborne Cloudbase headquarters. The Mysterons are never seen; their presence is indicated by two circles of light tracking across the scene. Their actions on Earth are always through their replicated intermediaries with the possible exception of Captain Black whose death is never portrayed and who may simply have been "turned" as their first agent whilst still on Mars. Although this distinction is never made in the series, the accompanying book states that Black was killed and revitalised by the Mysterons in much the same way as their other victims throughout the series.
Captain Scarlet becomes Spectrum's principal weapon at the forefront of the battle with the Mysterons after the events of the first episode, "The Mysterons". In that episode, Scarlet (whose real name is Paul Metcalfe) is one of two Spectrum agents (the other being fellow Spectrum agent Captain Brown) killed by the Mysterons in a rigged car crash and then replaced with a duplicate under their control; for reasons never explained in or out of the series, however, when the duplicate falls 800 feet from a tower the personality of Paul Metcalfe reasserts itself in the duplicate, who is immune thereafter to Mysteron control. Not only that, but Scarlet's new body has two new powers: it allows him to sense the presence of other Mysteron duplicates nearby, and if he should be injured or even killed, retro-metabolism will re-create him as good as before. ("Self-repairing" might be a more accurate way to describe this than the "indestructible" that the series uses, since it is established that Scarlet feels all the pain associated with any injuries he suffers.) This allows Scarlet to employ suicidally reckless options in order to foil the Mysterons, confident that while he will still experience the pain of the experience, he will fully recover from whatever injury results. This advantage is kept secret outside Spectrum, and even Captain Blue is often heard saying "But Captain, you'll be killed!" Later in the series, the Mysteron duplicates are discovered to be vulnerable to high-voltage electricity, implying that the same could permanently destroy Scarlet.
Characters
Spectrum personnel have military ranks and colour based code names (hence Captain Scarlet), and they are headed by Colonel White. Other characters include Captains Blue, Ochre, Grey, and Magenta, Lieutenant Green, and the five female fighter pilots, who have a different collective codename the Angels and are individually Destiny, Symphony, Melody, Rhapsody, and Harmony.

"NATM" redirects here. NATM may also refer to Not Another Teen Movie or Night at the Museum.
The New Austrian Tunneling method (NATM) was developed between 1957 and 1965 in Austria. It was given its name in Salzburg in 1962 to distinguish it from old Austrian tunnelling approach. The main contributors to the development of NATM were Ladislaus von Rabcewicz, Leopold Mler and Franz Pacher. The main idea is to use the geological stress of the surrounding rock mass to stabilize the tunnel itself.

Principles
The NATM integrates the principles of the behaviour of rock masses under load and monitoring the performance of underground construction during construction. The NATM is not a set of specific excavation and support techniques.
There are seven features on which NATM is based:
Mobilization of the strength of rock mass - The method relies on the inherent strength of the surrounding rock mass being conserved as the main component of tunnel support. Primary support is directed to enable the rock to support itself.
Shotcrete protection - Loosening and excessive rock deformation must be minimised. This is achieved by applying a thin layer of shotcrete immediately after face advance.
Measurements - Every deformation of the excavation must be measured. NATM requires installation of sophisticated measurement instrumentation. It is embedded in lining, ground, and boreholes.
Flexible support - The primary lining is thin and reflects recent strata conditions. Active rather than passive support is used and the tunnel is strengthened not by a thicker concrete lining but by a flexible combination of rock bolts, wire mesh and steel ribs.
Closing of invert - Quickly closing the invert and creating a load-bearing ring is important. It is crucial in soft ground tunnels where no section of the tunnel should be left open even temporarily.
Contractual arrangements - Since the NATM is based on monitoring measurements, changes in support and construction method are possible. This is possible only if the contractual system enables those changes.
Rock mass classification determines support measures - There are several main rock classes for tunnels and corresponding support systems for each. These serve as the guidelines for tunnel reinforcement.
Based on the computation of the optimal cross section, just a thin shotcrete protection is necessary. It is applied immediately behind the Tunnel boring machine, to create a natural load-bearing ring and therefore to minimize the rock's deformation. Additionally, geotechnical instruments are installed to measure the later deformation of excavation. Therefore a monitoring of the stress distribution within the rock is possible.
This monitoring makes the method very flexible, even at surprising changes of the geomechanical rock consistency during the tunneling work, e.g. by crevices or pit water. Such (usual) problems are not solved by thicker shotcrete, but the reinforcement is done by wired concrete which can be combined with steel ribs or lug bolts.
The measured rock properties lead to the appropriate tools for tunnel strengthening. Therefore in the last decade NATM was also applied to soft ground excavations and to tunnels in porous sediments. The flexible NATM technique enables immediate adjustments in the construction details, but this requires a flexible contractual system, too.
Philosophy and controversial names
When tunneling engineers talk on NATM, they often mean different things because some of them define it as a special technique, but others as a sort of philosophy. Recently the scene has been complicated by new terms and even alternative names, when discussing certain aspects of NATM. This is partly caused by an increased use of the method in the USA, particularly in soft ground conditions (see External links).
Besides the official name New Austrian Tunneling Method other designations are used in the last years, e.g. Sequential Excavation Method (SEM), or Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL). In Japan sometimes other names were used, e.g. Centre Dividing Wall NATM, or Cross Diaphragm Method (both abbreviated as CDM), and even Upper Half Vertical Subdivision method (UHVS). Evidently, the scientists and the tunneling industry cannot find a unified name for this wide-used method.
As defined by the Austrian Society of Engineers and Architects, the NATM constitutes a method where the surrounding rock or soil formations of a tunnel are integrated into an overall ring-like support structure. Thus the supporting formations will themselves be part of this supporting structure.
But many engineers already refer to as NATM, when shotcrete is proposed for initial ground support of an open-face...(and so on)

IMDb profile
Norma Desmond is a main character in Billy Wilder's film Sunset Boulevard.
An aging former star of silent movies, Desmond (Gloria Swanson) has withdrawn to her Gothic Beverly Hills mansion, off Sunset Boulevard, nursing dreams of a return to stardom while her grip on reality grows ever more tenuous over the years. Her one companion is Max (Erich von Stroheim), her butler, former director and we later learn, first husband, who serves as her protector and shields her from the outside world. Because he is still in love with her, he tells her she is still a star, and cuts her off from the news media to keep her from realizing that she has been completely forgotten by her beloved public.
One day Joe Gillis (William Holden), a young, unemployed screenwriter arrives at Desmond's with a flat tire on his 1946 Plymouth after being chased by two repo men. He parks the car inside the garage of the mansion and is summoned by Norma to the front door. She confuses him for an undertaker for her just deceased pet chimpanzee.
Norma finds out that Joe Gillis is in fact a writer and asks him to take a look at a manuscript she has been working for a while. It is the story of Salome, and she plans to star in it, though she is way past her prime.
Joe quickly sees a chance to milk money out of the delusional star; he promises to fix her a script for a star vehicle, and Norma agrees as she wants to send the manuscript to Paramount Pictures' famed director Cecil B. DeMille, with whom Desmond once worked. Desmond is elated; she sees in Gillis the chance to regain her youthful promise, and sets him up in style, buying his clothes and paying all his expenses. Max sees through Gillis immediately, but puts up with the charade because it makes his beloved "madame" happy. As time passes, however, Desmond becomes increasingly unstable when it becomes clear that there is no hit movie for her in the works, and increasingly jealous of and dependent upon Gillis. She professes her love for him at a New Year's Eve party, but he rejects her and leaves.
He attends another party, where he first flirts with screen writer Betty (Nancy Olson) and makes plans to move out of Norma's mansion. Norma makes a suicide attempt, and when Joe returns to comfort her, she seduces him.
Meanwhile, Paramount Studios calls repeatedly for Norma. She believes DeMille wants to produce her script. In actuality, Paramount just wants to use her vintage car in a film. While Norma visits DeMille on the set, Max learns that the calls were about the car. He tells Gillis but hides this from Norma. DeMille himself takes pity on her and tells her what she wants to hear.
Gillis begins writing a screenplay with Betty in secret, and Betty tells him she has fallen in love with him. When he hears Norma having a phone conversation with Betty, in an attempt to scare her away, he invites Betty to the mansion and confesses the situation, euphemistically "a older woman who's well-to-do" and a "young man who's not doing too well."
After driving away Betty, Gillis tells Norma he's leaving for good. Desmond snaps and shoots him to death, leaving his body floating in her pool and going into shock. When the police arrive, she thinks they are merely her adoring fans and the production crew for her movie. Elegantly striding toward a news camera, she utters the iconic line, "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."
Actresses
Norma Desmond was played on screen by Gloria Swanson.
The actresses who were considered for the role of Norma Desmond in the 1950 screen version, but declined, were Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer, Pola Negri, Mae West, and Mary Pickford.
Miriam Hopkins and Mary Astor played the role in two separate t.v. productions based on the film.
In the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical, the role was played by Patti LuPone (in London's West End), Elaine Paige (in London's West End and on Broadway), Glenn Close (in Los Angeles and on Broadway), Betty Buckley (in London's West End and on Broadway), Rita Moreno (in London's West End), Diahann Carroll (in Toronto), Faith Brown in a 2001 UK tour revival, Debra Byrne, Maria Mercedes and Judi Connelli in the two separate Australian productions and Helen Schneider, Christina Grimandi, Sue Mathys and Daniela Ziegler in the German version of the musical; Pia Douwes and Simone Kleinsma played the role in the 2008 Dutch tour of the show. Petula Clark, who appeared in the London production and took the show on a lengthy tour throughout the US, has played the role more often than any other actress, with more than 2500 performances to her credit. Destructo Trucks are a brand of skateboard trucks. The trucks of a skateboard are metal axle assemblies, mounted to the underneath of the deck. They hold on the wheels and allow the board to turn.
Destructo Trucks uses weapon grade aluminum in the production of their trucks. A new advance they incorperate into their design is the use of hollow kingpins, which lowers the weight of the trucks; this, along with the weapons grade aluminum, makes the truck both light and strong.
They are skated by Tony Cervantes, Kenny Reed, Bam Margera, Mike Vallely, Drake Wiseman and many other pro skaters

(Redirected from Tri band)
Tri band phones (also known as tri-band or triband) are mobile phones that support three frequency bands. Having more than one frequency in one device is useful to enable roaming between different countries and continents. Tri-band technology is slowly becoming the norm among many manufacturers.

Further information: GSM frequency bands
Various countries use different frequency bands for their mobile networks and a triband phone can be used on three of these bands, generally speaking, chosen to favour two of the home country's bands, and one for roaming in other countries.
GSM frequency bands used around the world:
850 MHz (In America)
900 MHz (In Africa, Europe, and many parts of Asia and Latin America)
1800 MHz (In Africa, Europe, and Asia and many parts of Latin America)
1900 MHz (In America)
2G Triband phones are mobile phones that support the GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz bands commonly sold in Europe, Asia and Africa, (for example the LG KE820 is a triband mobile phone that is sold in Europe, but works in big cities of America but not so well in suburbs and rural areas).Or alternatively the 850/1800/1900 bands (commonly sold in the Americas). The Motorola V300 formerly carried by Rogers Wireless used a rare combination of 850/900/1900. A 2G Quad band (850/900/1800/1900) offers more coverage and is now quite common.
3G
Further information: UMTS frequency bands
UMTS / HSDPA devices operate in UMTS frequency bands 850/1900/2100 or 850/1700/2100 MHz:
2100 (downlink) / 1900 (uplink) for Europe and Asia (usually referred simply as W-CDMA 2100)
1900 / 850 (independently, for both the uplink and downlink) for America (e.g. AT&T)
2100 (downlink) / 1700 (uplink) for America (e.g. T-Mobile)
850 for Australia (Telstra NextG)
UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA is a further evolution.
Note that being UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA tri band doesn't mean that phone is a GSM / GPRS / EDGE tri band. An HSUPA tri band might not be a GSM at all. However nearly all HSDPA or HSUPA tri band are EDGE quad band too.
A 3G Quad band offers more coverage.

(Redirected from Best Case Complexity)
Often when dealing with computer algorithms it is not only useful to know worst-case complexity, it is also important to know what is the best case for an algorithm. This complexity can be split into two fields. One is time complexity the other is space complexity. The definition using ?(g(n)), read Big Omega of g, can be applied to both time or space and as such, only one definition of best case complexity is required. Informally the best case complexity is the largest g(n) such that T(n) = ?(g(n)) (T(n) is in ?(g(n))).
Best-case complexity b = {inf(S) | S = \-/ f s.t there exist a c, B > 0 s.t \-/ n ? B g(n) ? cf(n) } where g(n) is your algorithm.
In plain English this means that the worst case complexity is the largest element in the set of all functions such that g is in ?(f(n)) for all n greater than B, which is the breaking point.
Best case complexity is not all the best measure of well an algorithm performs. More often computer scientists care more bout the worst case complexity and after that how well an algorithm will run on average. An algorithm that has a best case of ?(1) is pointless if its worst case is O(2n).

Time Complexity
Best case time complexity is the least amount of time it would take for an algorithm to execute. Small differences such as built in commands, and variable accesses are ignored, but loops and recursion have a much more profound effect on runtime. A very trivial example of this would be the code in java which prints the numbers 0 through n in order:
public static void main(String[] args){
for (int i = 0;i < Integer.parseInt(args) ; i++){
System.out.println("" + i);
}
}
The worst case complexity for this algorithm is the same as its best case. This algorithm is in ?(n). In many cases however the best case does not equal the worst case. In these instances it is quite easy to find a g(n) such that T(n) = ?(g(n)), finding the tight bound however, ie. the inf(S), requires looking at possible sequences that yields the best results and proving there is no such sequence that yields a smaller g(n).
Another less trivial example of this is linear search in java:
public int search(A,x){
boolean found = false;
int c = 0;
int index = -1;
while ((c < A.size()) && (found == false)){
if A[c] = x {
found = true;
index = c;
}
}return index;
}
In this case clearly the worst case is O(n). This happens when you have to traverse the entire array. However with A = x the algorithm only needs to check the first element. This means the runtime of the algorithm at best no matter the size of the input is constant or O(1). Clearly there is no input in which this algorithm could do better then O(1) so this is the best case complexity.
Ie. for a Bubble Sort modified to check for a sorted list the worst case is n2 while the best case(a list already in sorted order) yields a best case of ?(n). Even though it's a trivial case, it must still be considered.
Space complexity
Space complexity is the measure of the amount of space, excluding the original data passed in, that it takes an algorithm to execute on an input. Any algorithm that must always store at least all of the data at a time runs in &Omega:(n) of space complexity. If however an algorithm only needed to store a counter of some kind its space complexity would be log(n) where n is the final value of the counter. This is the reason as it only takes log2(n) bits to store a number.

Chinese repeating crossbow
A repeating crossbow (Chinese: ?? or Lian-nu) is a crossbow where the separate actions of stringing the bow, placing the bolt and shooting it can be accomplished with a simple one-handed movement, all the while keeping the crossbow stationary. This allows the bow to shoot at a faster rate compared to a normal crossbow. A magazine containing a number of bolts is present on top of the bow and the mechanism is worked by moving a rectangular lever forward and backward.

History
The Chinese repeating crossbow (Chinese: ???; pinyin: Zh?g? n?; Wade-Giles: Chu-ke nu; literally "Zhuge crossbow"; sometimes misspelled as Chu-ko-nu) is a device with a simple design. It is commonly believed to have been invented by the Chinese strategist Zhuge Liang (181-234 A.D.) of the Three Kingdoms period. However, this belief is false as the earliest repeating crossbows (found in Tomb 47 of Qinjiazui, Hubei province) were dated to the 4th century BC. Zhuge Liang improved the design of the repeating crossbow, and made a version which shot two to three bolts at once and was used in massed formations, and for this reason, it was named after him. The repeating crossbow saw its last serious action in the China-Japan war of 1894-1895, where photographs show repeating crossbows as common weapons among Manchurian troops. The basic construction of this weapon has remained very much unchanged since its invention, making it one of the longest-lived mechanical weapons.
The repeating crossbow was introduced into Korea by King Sejong, who during a trip to China saw the weapon and was impressed by its mechanism. In Korean it was called sunogung (Hangul: ???; Hanja: ???).
A larger device similar to the Chinese repeating crossbow was described in the works of the Greek engineer Philon of Byzantium. This device, a repeating ballista, was called a Polybolos and was reputedly invented by Dionysius of Alexandria in the 3rd century BC. Two flat-linked chains were connected to a windlass, which by winding back and forth would automatically fire the machine's arrows until its magazine was empty. The machine features the earliest recorded chain link drive.
Heron of Alexandria also tapped into Philon's work and made the Cheiroballistra, which was a semi-automatic version of the Polybolos.

Part of a Naval Battle Scroll from the Imjin War
The chu-ko-nu had a very simple and rugged design. The weapon was extremely easy to manufacture and use, and, in the hands of a trained soldier, could easily launch ten bolts in fifteen seconds. In comparison, an arbalest could only deliver about two bolts a minute. The chu-ko-nu however, had neither the power nor the accuracy of an arbalest. This gave it a shorter range, compensated for by using lightweight bolts instead of the heavy bolts of single-shot crossbows. Thus, the chu-ko-nu was not very useful against more heavily armored troops unless poison was smeared on bolts, in which case even a small wound may prove fatal. Since a chu-ko-nu was shot from the hip, accuracy was poor, but the aim could be adjusted very swiftly since the next shot was only a second or two away. To get past these limits often large numbers of men would use it on the battlefield, allowing for large numbers of bolts to be fired.
The chu-ke-nu was operated by moving a lever forwards and then backwards. In that one movement, a bolt would be dropped into place, the string tensioned, and then the bolt released. Another bolt would then be ready to take its place from the magazine above. This action however put the weapon's string under heavy wear since it had forces straining it from both above and below. The lifting of the magazine especially, put severe pressure on the string. Chu-ko-nu strings were therefore often reinforced with quills from bird feathers, preferably those from swans or ducks.
Alterations of chu-ko-nu included mountable siege crossbows with larger bolts and greater power which required two men to operate (a sighter and an operator). There was also a heavy version using two magazines, thus doubling the number of bolts discharged. The latter was used in extreme close-quarter combat because they had extremely short range. A larger version that required two hands to operate was sometimes mounted on top of castle walls. They proved to be effective in defending the gates and doorways of castles.
The chu-ko-nu can be considered a predecessor to modern automatic weapons. Its use was similar to the early hand-operated rapid fire firearms of the 19th century (see Gatling Gun).

Biography
Born March 16, 1936 in Uryu, Hokkaid?, Japan to educators Satoru and Masue Matsuki. Her father Satoru's opposition to the Japanese War led to official reprisals forcing he and his family into hiding for most of World War 2. After the surrender of Japan, his known anti-war sentiments resulted in his being given an educational leadership post, where he applied the innovations of American educator Ruth Benedict & philosopher John Dewey to the Japanese educational system, earning him an award from Emperor Hirohito in 1970. The family lived in a number of locations on Hokkaid?, finally the resort city Noboribetsu, famed for its scenery and hot springs. Samizu's lineal ancestors had moved to southern Hokkaid? in the late 19th century.
Samizu was awarded a scholarship to the Women's College of Fine Art's Faculty of Western Painting. Tokyo. She graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor in Arts degree. Her graduation work aphne (oil, approximately 4 by 5'), is in the collection of the Noboribetsu Cultural Center, Hokkaid?, Japan. The painting suffered some notoriety for its sensuality; briefly pulled from view, it mysteriously reappeared on the display wall the next morning.

Samizu Matsuki, left, and 2 other teachers, Tokyo, 1960
Her two teaching jobs, one at an elementary school in Itabashi Precinct in 1959, the other at Shimura Daisan Junior High School in Tokyo in 1960, illuminated for her the malleability of children per the call of art critic and historian Herbert Read for originality and creativity.
An active member of the Tokyo Teachers Union, in 1960 the Teachers Union Monthly published a presentation and lecture Samizu gave in the swank Bunkyo Precinct in Tokyo, where , speaking on behalf of the teachers of the more working class Itabashi precinct, she called for adoption throughout the Japanese educational system of the education principles laid out by Reade in his book Education Through Art.
In 1961 Samizu married American airman Herman Berry at the American Embassy in Tokyo. They left Japan in 1962, and for the next seven years lived at airbases in Europe and the United States. When her husband was sent to Pakistan, Samizu spent eighteen months with Berry's relatives, where she painted portraits of residents of their remote Appalachian mountain community in western North Carolina.
Upon his return, they spent four years at the Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. During this period 1964 to 1968, Samizu visited Rome and painted commissioned portraits for five Air Force officers and their wives, and was commissioned by the Officers Club of the 49th Tactical Squadron to paint a portrait of the recently deceased USAF fighter ace Richard Bong
Samizu became increasingly disillusioned with her spouse's violent jealousy, and in 1969 divorced Berry while they were living at Calumet Air Force Station in northern Michigan. Uterine cancer shortly caused her to get a hysterectomy at age 32. She spent that summer in Albany, Oregon, where she submitted the winning design for the logo of the 1969 Albany Jaycees Timber Carnival. This being the Carnival's 25th anniversary, the theme was "passing the torch." Samizu's drawing, shown here on the carnival's pinback button, depicts a young logger with hardhat and chainsaw and an elderly logger with wool cap and axe, standing behind a short bark-covered log. The young logger has an arm around the shoulder of his elder in comradely fashion.
Informed that six years would pass before she could be declared free of cancer, in 1970 she plunged into the New York fine arts cultural scene. By 1975 her explorations of classical realism had won her a gold medal at the 1970 First New York International Art Show, membership as one of the first woman artists in the hitherto men-only New York art club, the Salmagundi Club, the Grand Prix at the 1971 Locust Valley Art Show on Long Island, New York, and the Award of Excellence at the 1974 Abraham & Straus-Hempstead Art Show, "Long Island Art '74".
Becoming less concerned about a resurgence of cancer, Matsuki, who'd become known as "the shark", by friends for her seemingly never slowing down, then worked at a more leisurely pace, and stopped entering competitions. Picnic table
A picnic table (or sometimes a picnic bench) is a modified table with benches, expressly for the purpose of eating a meal outdoors (picnicking). Picnic tables are often made of wood, but modern tables can be made out of anything from recycled plastic to brushed metal. Picnic tables are used to sit and eat on. Food is kept on top with seating on the bottom platform. Picnic tables are generally found outside and in many parks.
A picnic table can be constructed using 2x4 or 2x6 wood. Some protection for the wood (stain, paint, or wood protectant that repels water) is considered necessary to protect it from the elements (cracking, warping, or rotting due to moisture).
The table-top and bench-top boards are attached to the trusses or beams using wood screws or nails. The legs can be secured with carriage bolts fastened by nuts and washers.

Dougal Robertson (1924-1992) was a Scottish author and sailor born in Edinburgh. He joined the British Merchant Navy after attending Leith Nautical College. After leaving maritime life, Robertson began to raise a family and to work as a dairy farmer.
On January 27, 1971, Dougal departed from Falmouth, England on board Lucette, a 43-foot wooden schooner built in 1922 which the family had purchased with their life's savings. He was accompanied by his wife Lynn, daughter Anne, son Douglas, and twin sons Neil and Sandy. Over the next year and a half, they sailed across the Atlantic, stopping at various ports of call in the Caribbean. Anne retired from the voyage in the Bahamas.
During the their transit of the Panama Canal, the family members took aboard an inexperienced crew member named Robin Williams (no relation to the comedian of the same name), who was to accompany them on the next segment of their voyage to the Galapagos Islands and beyond to the islands of the South Pacific.
On June 15, 1972, Lucette was holed by a pod of killer whales and sank approximately 200 miles west of the Galapagos Islands. The group of six people on board escaped to an inflatable life raft and a solid-hull dinghy with little in the way of tools or provisions.
Using the dinghy as a towboat powered by a jury-rigged sail, the group made its way towards the doldrums, hoping to find rain there so they could collect drinking water. They did so successfully, while catching turtles, mahi-mahi and flying fish to eat. The inflatable raft became unusable after 16 days, so the six people crowded into the three-meter long dinghy with their supplies. They then continued to use the wind and current to their advantage, moving to the northeast towards Central America. By their 38th day as castaways, they had stored dried meat and fresh water in such quantities that they intended to begin rowing that night to speed their progress. However, they were sighted and picked up that day by a fishing trawler on its way to the Panama Canal. Robertson, who had been keeping a journal in case they were rescued, recounted the ordeal in the 1973 book Survive the Savage Sea, which served as the foundation for the 1991 film of the same name. The story was revisted in his son Douglas's book The Last Voyage of the Lucette..
Dougal went on to write "Sea Survival: A Manual", and continued to sail until his death in 1992.

A suicide pact describes the suicides of two or more individuals in an agreed-upon plan. The plan may be to die together, or separately and closely timed. Suicide pacts are important concepts in the study of suicide, and have occurred throughout history, as well as in fiction.
Suicide pacts are generally distinct from mass suicide. The latter refers to incidents in which a larger number of people kill themselves together for the same ideological reason, often within a religious, political, military or paramilitary context. Suicide pacts, on the other hand, usually involve small groups of people (such as married or romantic partners, family members, or friends) whose motivations are intensely personal and individual.
A suicide pact negotiated over the internet, often between complete strangers, is an Internet suicide.
New group-suicide method: Charcoal
Main article: Charcoal-burning suicide
Another focus of the media reports on group suicide pacts is a new and unique method of suicide that is being utilized in Japan (and gradually spreading elsewhere), one that is particularly popular among those committing group suicidearbon monoxide poisoning achieved by burning charcoal briquettes (or fossil fuels) in barbecue grills or stoves within an enclosed area, such as a small sealed room, tent, or car. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare reports that "group suicide through gas inhalation increased in 2003, with 3,538 people involved, up by 2,024 from 2002." Many Japanese media outlets report on suicides by charcoal-produced carbon-monoxide poisoning, referring to it as a ew method of suicide." A 2001 psychiatric article reports that suicides via charcoal-produced carbon-monoxide poisoning were nheard of in Hong Kong before the first case in that country was sensationalized by the media in 1998. The victim in that case eportedly learned of the method from a Chinese film. The article reports that suicide-by-charcoal cases in Hong Kong have risen dramatically and steadily since 1998, and concludes that, due to intense media coverage of such cases, a opycat effect is a contributing factor. In the Billy Talent video "Nothing To Lose", a teen commits suicide by piping the carbon monoxide from the exhaust into the interior. Japanese serial killer Hiroshi Maeue lured victims by forging bogus suicide pacts with them, suggesting burning charcoal in a sealed car as a method of exit, only to suffocate his victims with his hands instead.
Recent cases of internet-related suicide-by-charcoal pacts that have occurred outside of Japan such as the February 2005 suicide of two young people in the United Kingdom, reported by the media as the UK "first online suicide pact" have been directly influenced by media reports of similar incidents occurring in Japan.

The Gibson Victory bass series was manufactured for 5 years, between 1981 and 1986. The range consisted of two passive (Standard and Custom) and one active (Artist) model.
The basses were all maple bodied, with bolt-on three-piece laminate maple necks, 24 fret rosewood fretboard, and one (Standard), or two (Custom and Artist) humbucking pickups. They were all long scale (34 inch) instruments.
The combination of materials and construction style made for very versatile (but also heavy) bass - and when combined with active electronics, this versatility only increased, giving the rich bass mellow sounds that Gibson bass guitars are famous for, but also the bright twangy sounds so popular in the late seventies/early eighties.
The Victory bass had a number of features previously unseen in Gibson bass guitars: a brass nut, sloped front pickup, reinforced neck (steel bars either side of the truss rod) and pickups that could be switched to offer coils in series or parallel. Its extreme asymmetrical shape gave access to all 24 frets.
Available with fretted or fretless neck. Finishes include Silver, Ebony, Candy Apple Red, and Antique Fireburst.

The cool tropics paradox. The geological evidence appeared to constrain temperatures to the red/blue band, whereas models produced the brown line taking just continental configuration into account, and the blue line when they included increased atmospheric CO2. Vertical axis: Temperature; horizontal:latitude.
The cool tropics paradox refers to an apparent difference between modelled estimates of tropical temperatures during warm, ice-free periods of the Cretaceous and Eocene, and the colder temperatures which proxies suggested were present. The long-standing paradox was resolved when it became clear that the proxies were misleading, meaning that tropics were warmer than previously believed.

Origin of the paradox
Proxy-based reconstructions of paleotemperature appeared to predict a low temperature gradient between the tropics and poles. Data from surface-dwelling foramanifera suggested that during the late Cretaceous, an unusually warm period, sea surface temperatures were cooler than today's. The term was later applied to similar situations, for example during the Eocene.
Climate models which worked during the Tertiary failed to produce this low temperature gradient; in order to match the observed data, they predicted that the tropics should be 40 or more - much hotter than the proxies said they were. To attempt to match the data, bizarre models involving unreasonable eddies were required.
Models
Models were developed to predict and explain the lack of ice during the warm periods of the Cretaceous and Eocene. Models are developed according to the fundamental principle that they should be kept as simple as possible. Consequently, the first models attempted to explain the lack of ice using solely the different continental configuration. These could not produce an ice-free state without using an increased atmospheric concentration of CO2; this assumption was checked against the evidence and found to be valid. This introduced a new difficulty: more CO2 would produce warmer tropical sea temperatures, and the evidence suggested they were the same or even colder than today's.
Data supporting cool tropical oceans
Foramaniferal data, suggesting tropical temperatures cooler than today's, disagreed with terrestrial proxies, which spoke of warmer temperatures - although most of the terrestrial figures are based on extrapolation of data from outside the tropics.
Sources of error
Analytical error is around 2-3 for individual specimens, but this drops to 0.5-1.0 when a sample is analysed - not enough to explain the discrepancy. Other factors mean that any pristine sample can be considered to have an associated error of up to 3. Changes in salinity, kinetic and diagenesis, can also confound analysis: the latter two are each estimated to reduce estimated temperatures by 1-2, and are difficult to quantify.
Reconciling the data with the model
Taking the data to be true, how could they be reconciled with the predictions of the model? The only way the model could be "tweaked" was by fiddling with the parameterisation of clouds, one of the most unpredictable aspects of any model. The model was adjusted to assume that the higher CO2 levels produced more tropical cloud, shielding these regions from the sun's heat. However, there was no evidence for this behaviour, and still left problems. The poles were still warmer than the models predicted. Further feedbacks, including increased poleward heat transport by the oceans, and vegetational responses at high latitudes, were proposed, but these didn't fully explain behaviour in the southern hemisphere, and winter, respectively.
Unravelling the paradox
Hints of warmth - terrestrial proxies
Data from terrestrial proxies suggested that the equator may have reached 304] - however, this figure is based upon extrapolation of data found outside the tropics. This would imply that the foramaniferal proxies were wrong - the tests may perhaps have been overprinted by diagenesis. Researchers turned to shallow marine molluscs as it is easy to determine whether their shells had been altered by diagenesis.
Detecting diagenesis in molluscs
Many mollusc shells are constructed from aragonite, a mineral that is quickly replaced by calcite by diagenetic alteration. Also, near-shore molluscs preserve seasonal variability in their shells, a feature that would be lost in the presence of a diagenetic signal. This removes ambiguity about whether or not a shell has...(and so on)

A foam balloon is a special type of a gas-filled balloon. Strictly speaking a foam balloon is not a balloon, as it has no envelope, but consists of an organic material up-foamed with hydrogen or helium. Thus foam balloons cannot burst. However their carrying capacity is smaller than that of normal balloons. Foam balloons are manufactured as a rule directly at the place of the ascent with a special machine. The form of the foam balloon can be varied hereby. It is possible to create foam balloons with diameter of more than 1 meter. Identical foam balloons can be manufactured with the same machine in short repetition periods. Foam balloons are used frequently for advertising purposes, since they can be manufactured easily in the form of company symbols. In principle also wind conditions in the lower atmosphere can be easily monitored with their aid. Foam balloons are not long-term stable, but decay after some hours. Nevertheless they can reach heights of several kilometers.

Molding sand, foundry sand, or green sand is sand that when moistened or oiled tends to pack well and hold its shape. It is used in the process of sand casting.
Green sand
Green sand is an aggregate of sand, bentonite clay, pulverized coal and water. Its principal use is in making molds for metal casting. The largest portion of the aggregate is always sand, which can be either silica or olivine. There are many recipes for the proportion of clay, but they all strike different balances between moldability, surface finish, and ability of the hot molten metal to degas. The coal, typically referred to in foundries as sea-coal, which is present at a ratio of less than 5%, partially combusts in the presence of the molten metal leading to offgassing of organic vapors.
Sand casting is one of the earliest forms of casting practiced due to the simplicity of materials involved. It still remains one of the cheapest ways to cast metals because of that same simplicity. Other methods of casting, such as those using shell molds boast higher quality of surface finish, but higher cost.
Green sand (and other casting sands) is usually housed in what casters refer to as flasks which are nothing other than boxes without a bottom or lid. The box is split into two halves which are stacked together in use. The halves are referred to as the top (cope) and bottom (drag) flask respectively.
Green sand is not green in color, but "green" in the sense that it is used in a wet state (akin to green wood). According to the Cast Metals Federation website, an alternative casting method is to heat-dry the molded sand before pouring the molten metal. This dry sand casting process results in a more rigid mold better suited to heavier castings.

WAM was originally formed as the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association Inc. (WARMIA) in 1985, with its main aim to develop and run annual awards recognising achievements within the music industry in Western Australia. WAM first received project funding from the state government in 1989, and in the early 90s the word "rock" was dropped from the title to give the organisation scope to take on a broader constituency.
In 1989 the inaugural WA Song Contest commenced, in 2002 it was rebranded as the WAM Song of the Year.
The WAM Song of the Year is open to all residents of Western Australia. The song must be the original work of the songwriter(s). Songwriters with a publishing deal can only enter the Professional category.

Gigabeat
The Gigabeat was first called the MobilPhile and later renamed to Gigabeat. It contained a monochrome LCD with blue backlighting, and a 5GB removable PCMCIA hard drive. It's case was made of aluminum, and battery life is specified at 18 hours. It required music to be converted using the Toshiba Audio Application to an encrypted format. It has a circular dpad surrounding a smaller circular play/pause button, 2 menu buttons, side-mounted volume up/down buttons and a lock switch.
Gigabeat G
The Gigabeat G was first introduced during the Japanese WPC Expo in September 2003. The hard drive player features capacities from 5GB to 40GB, support for MP3, WMA and WAV sound files, USB 2.0, and integration with Windows Media Player. The device has a 160x86-pixel monochromic screen with blue backlighting. Battery life is specified at 11 hours. It is only available in Japan.
The Gigabeat G was updated and branded as the G21. This version offered some new features such as LAN addressing.
Gigabeat F
The Gigabeat F was released in September 2004. The hard drive player is available in capacities from 10 to 60GB, and has a 2.2" 16-bit TFT LCD screen with a QVGA resolution. Battery life lasts up to 16 hours, and reportedly 19 hours if the backlight is set to 5 seconds. The Gigabeat F introduced a new controller called "Plustouch" which is a touch sensitive control system on a plus-shaped pad. Like the Gigabeat G, the player supports MP3, WMA (as well as protected WMA), and WAV, but encrypts all uploaded files to a special SAT format.
In November 2005, Toshiba released simultaneous upgrades to the Gigabeat F's firmware and the Gigabeat Room software. An English version was released in March 2006. Problems with image transferring and distortion were solved, and an equalizer was added to the player.
Gigabeat X
The Gigabeat X was an update to the F series; changes included the dropping of the 40GB version for a 30GB version, and a 16-hour battery life. The X-series has a larger 2.4" 16-bit TFT LCD display, which enables it to display images. It also has a smaller body (similar to the future Gigabeat S) and raised Plustouch pad. It was sold primarily in Australia and various Asian countries.
Gigabeat P
The Gigabeat P series players are Toshiba's first attempt at entering the flash-based Digital audio player (DAP) market.
The player features a 1.1-inch, 16-bit OLED screen of a resolution of 96 by 96 pixels and comes in two different capacities. The P5 is available in two different colour variations and is the 512 MB model, whereas the P10 is only available in 1GB in black. Both types support MP3, WMA, and WAV, and includes a built-in FM tuner.
Special editions
The Gigabeat P5S is a Japanese-only, 512MB model of the Gigabeat P that was released in July 2006 (Trapnest models) and August 2006 (Blast models), which featured custom plates of Nana characters.
Gigabeat S
The Gigabeat S was released in Japan in April 2006 and in the United States on the last day of May 2006. The player was first presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2006 in Las Vegas by Bill Gates in his keynote speech. It uses version 2 of the Portable Media Center interface by Microsoft and the device closely integrates with Windows Media Player 11 and the Xbox 360. The player has a 12-hour battery life for audio and plays video for up to 2.5 hours. The Gigabeat S is the first of subsequent Toshiba players that does not include Gigabeat Room to transfer and sync content, the players are now compatible with Windows Media Player.
The player offers a 2.4-inch, 16-bit TFT LCD display with a QVGA resolution and storage capacities of 30GB or 60GB. It also has a built-in FM tuner and audio support for MP3, WAV, WMA (both lossy and lossless), while the player natively supports WMV. Other video formats such as MPEG-4, AVI and QuickTime are only supported through transcoding. The device is also Playsforsure-certified, which means that it is compatible with online stores like Napster To Go.
The Gigabeat S also has a USB Host for downloading images directly off digital cameras without the need of a computer, while connecting the player to a TV needs an optional composite TV-out cable.
On the 3rd of March, 2009, Toshiba released a firmware update which upgrades the Platform to 1.3 (from 1.1). There are no release notes and the changes are unknown.

This page refers to the hand tool. For the power tool also known as a fretsaw in some regions, see scroll saw.

A 16" fretsaw fitted with a medium duty 20 tpi blade
The fretsaw is a saw used for intricate cutting work which often incorporates tight curves. Although the coping saw is often used for similar work, the fretsaw is capable of much tighter radii and more delicate work. It has a distinctive appearance due to the depth of its frame (typically between 10 and 20 inches), which together with the relatively short five inch blade makes this tool appear somewhat out of proportion compared to most other saws.
Compared to the coping saw it has much shallower blades, which are usually extra-fine (up to 32 tpi). This allows much tighter curves to be cut with many blades even sharp corners are possible but the blades are also much more fragile compared to that of a coping saw. Unlike the coping saw, the blade has a fixed orientation in relation to the frame. This means that the fretsaw is less useful when cutting long narrow components, but the increased depth of the frame does allow access much further from the edge of the board.
The fretsaw is similar in many respects to the scroll saw, which is essentially a powered fretsaw with a table. Blades between the two tools are usually interchangeable, and indeed scroll saws are often known as "fret saws" informally.
The tool takes its name from its use in fretwork and ultimately from the French freter (lattice) - a reference to the intricate patterns often created using this tool.
Using the fretsaw
Because of its sheer size, the frame makes up a large proportion of the total weight of the tool and has a relatively large moment, which in the hands of an inexperienced user can create a tendency for the direction of cut to drift away from that desired. To counter this the fretsaw is usually used with the handle (and blade) aligned on a vertical axis which reduces the effects of this torque. The effect may also be lessened with a shorter (and lighter) frame, although this also reduces the size of components that may be worked. A cutting or fretwork table, also known as a V-board, made of either wood or metal and which clamps to the edge of the workbench, may be used to support the work piece whilst allowing clearance for the saw blade by means of a V-shaped slot cut into it.
The blade is usually clamped into position using a pair of wing nuts. Although wing nuts are usually intended for operation without tools it is often impossible to apply sufficient force purely by hand. Wingnut spanners (US English: wrenches) greatly increase the torque that may be applied, ensuring that the blade is securely clamped.
Types of blade
Although traditionally intended for woodwork, metal cutting blades are readily available increasing the flexibility of this saw. Spiral blades are also available which have teeth on all sides of the blade, and will cut in any direction without the need to rotate either the saw or the work piece. This can be useful when access is restricted due to the size of the component being worked, and compensate in part for the inability to rotate the blade in the manner possible with a coping saw. However, they also have a wider kerf and as such remove more material than a conventional blade. These alternative blades make the fretsaw suitable for many tasks traditionally performed by the piercing saw, although piercing saw blades are typically finer still than the finest fretsaw blade.

History
Disneyland has always had some form of Guest Service. Walt Disney created the Park with the intent to give visitors the opportunity to relive the past, and to explore fantasy and the future in a perfectly controlled environment. But he realized that some of his Guests would need special help to enjoy their visit.
Some parents would become separated from their children; some people would lose their belongings; some would feel that certain things impeded their enjoyment of the Park; some would want information about Disneyland; and some would simply need to feel that Walt Disney had a personal interest in them.
In 1955, two departments provided service to Disneyland visitors. Security operated facilities for lost children and lost belongings, as well as the gate for Guests who had complimentary admission to the Park. The other department was actually three departments grouped into one: Customer Relations (the department title), Entertainment, and Publicity.
In addition to coordinating entertainment, press releases, and other Guest business activities, it also expanded the concept of Guest Service. Upon requests from top management, they offered complimentary VIP tours of the Park, hosted by one of their three hostesses. These tours were designed to furnish foreign and domestic Guests of The Walt Disney Company with an informative and entertaining visit to the Park. The department operated City Hall, an office designed to receive comments from the Park's visitors, and to resolve any problems the visitors might encounter during their day. The office secretaries answered telephone calls and letters requesting information about Disneyland.
As interest in the Park grew, so did the demand for Guest Service. In 1957, telephone calls to the department had increased to such an extent that the hostesses, when not on tour, were assigned to answer them. In 1958, the VIP tour service was expanded to include Guided Tours of Disneyland, available to the general public. In 1961, VIP hostess tours were augmented to include the guests of various companies desiring to provide them a special visit to the park.
By 1964, Guest demand had become so great that it became apparent that the services provided to the Guests would be more effective if they were consolidated into one department. The Guest Relations Department was formed. Since that time, as well as during its formation, the...(and so on)

A shuffleboard game being prepared on the deck of the MV Aurora.
Shuffleboard (more precisely deck shuffleboard, and also known as shuffle-board, shovelboard, shovel-board and shove-board [archaic]) is a game in which players use broom-shaped paddles to push weighted pucks, sending them gliding down a narrow and elongated court, with the purpose of having them come to rest within a marked scoring area. As a more generic term, it refers to the family of shuffleboard-variant games as a whole.

History
The full history of shuffleboard is not known. Though we have some knowledge of its development, its actual origins, the place and date where it was first played, remain a mystery. Inevitably, this uncertainty gives rise to some debate, even disagreement, about which country can claim to have invented it. However there is no dispute concerning its age as a form of popular amusement, and in Europe has a history that goes back over 500 years.
The earliest known name given to it is the Middle English shovillaborde; it was played and gambled at by King Henry VIII, who prohibited commoners from playing, and who evidently did not always win because the record of royal expenses for 1632 show a payment from the Privy Purse of GB?9, 'Paied to my lord Wylliam for that he wanne of the kinges grace at shovillaborde' (Modern English: 'Paid to Lord William, for he won, by the king's grace, at shovelboard').
In its goals, form and equipment, shuffleboard shares various features with (and perhaps influences by or upon) many other games, including air hockey, bowls, bocce, curling, croquet, carrom and billiards. Historically, shovelboard appears to have diverged into modern shuffleboard and sjoelbak, and with the former leading to the development of both table shuffleboard and shove ha'penny.
Today, due to its popularity on cruise ships and in retirement homes because of its low physical fitness requirements, the deck game is often associated with the elderly, though its miniaturized tabletop variant is increasingly popular in bars and pubs among younger generations.
Game play

A close up of the scoring triangle.
This section requires expansion.
In deck shuffleboard, the players use sticks, called cues, to push weighted disks, called pucks, along a usually wooden surface (e.g. the deck of a ship), placing the disk within a triangular scoring zone at the far end of the court. The pinnacle of the triangle points toward the shooter, and the zone is divided horizontally into four numbered sub-zones, the numbers representing point values. If the disk lands completely within the small triangular tip zone without touching any part of the borders of the triangle, it is worth ten points; completely within the trapezoidal second tier of the triangle, it is worth eight points; and completely within the trapezoidal third tier of the triangle, seven points. If the disk lands in the large, rearmost and also trapezoidal '10 Off' section, it costs minus ten points. Many boards have a small triangle drawn in the center of the '10 off' trapezoid, splitting it and making it harder to land completely inside the section. The game is played in matches of ten frames (a frame is both players or teams taking their turns). The basic strategy involves deflecting the opposition's disks out of zones with a positive value, and increasing one's own points by landing disks into areas of a high point value.
A standard deck shuffleboard court is 39eet long by 6t wide. Each end of the court has a scoring triangle, obviating the need to retrieve the pucks and return to the original end of the court. Another 6eet of space is provided at each end of the court beyond the scoring triangles, which is where the players stand, with play alternating in direction down the court after each frame.
Newer courts are now available, for use on decks or on any solid flat surface, in the form of roll-out plastic mats, or an adjustable system of plastic tiles. With the tile courts, the dimensions can be adapted to the space available; e.g. it is possible to play on a court 30t long by 5t wide.[citations needed] The roll-out mats are available in two sizes, 396t and 27t by 4t6n. The smaller mats are designed to fit on a domestic patio or driveway.[citations needed] The discs and cues are the same standard sizes, regardless which court size is used.
Teams
Shuffleboard can be played either one-on-one or by two teams of two. After all pucks have been played on one 'end', only the winning puck or group of pucks scores (according to the points marked on the board). Play then continues in the opposite direction. The winner is the first to a set number of points (e.g. 15).

For other uses, see Comforter (disambiguation).
A comforter is a type of blanket. Comforters are intended to keep the user warm, especially during sleep, although they can also be used as mattress pads. Comforters are generally large and rectangular in shape, filled with natural or synthetic insulative material and encased in a shell/covering. Like quilts, comforters are generally used with a set of sheets.

Comforter
Comforter sizes correspond with bed sizes: twin, full, queen, king, and cal-king. Comforter sizes run slightly larger than actual bed sizes to allow for draping over the sides of the bed. Typical sizes in the United States for comforters are:
Twin = 64" Width x 87" Length
Queen / Full = 87" Width x 87" Length
King = 101" Width x 90" Length.
A comforter is sometimes covered with a duvet (comforter) cover for protection and prolonged use. Duvet is French for "Down". Comforter covers are like a big pillowcase for your comforter, usually closed with zippers or buttons. In the United Kingdom, they are only known as special types of padding Duvets.
Comforters are typically packaged in a set that also includes a bed skirt, pillow shams, and sometimes pillows.
Construction
Filling - Comforters are filled with layers of material such as polyester batting, down feathers, wool, or silk. Comforters also can be made out of fur, usually with a backing of satin or silk. The loft of the filling determines the weight as well as the level of insulation. The comforter is stitched or quilted to secure the filling and keep it evenly distributed.[citation needed]
Shell/Covering - The outer shells of comforters are typically constructed using cotton, silk, or polyester fabrics or blends, of varying thread counts. Comforter shells vary in design and color, often designed to coordinate with other bedding.Washing a comforter should not be done with a top-loader, minimum capacity to wash a comforter is 3.7.

The Madura was a cruiser motorcycle sold by Suzuki in 1985 and 1986. It was available with either 1200 cc or 700 cc V4 engines. It was created as a response to Honda's Magna V4 muscle cruiser and was a direct competitor with Yamaha's V-Max power cruiser, also released in 1985.

History
In response to the Honda Magna, Suzuki made the Madura model. Like the Magna, it was a V-four powered cruiser. Like the Magna, the Madura was offered with two different engine sizes. Both bikes' smaller engines displaced 700 cc, but while the big Magna displaced 1100 cc, (actual 1098 cc) the big Madura displaced 1200 cc (actual 1165 cc).
Production of the Madura was halted after just two years. According to Peter Seifert of Vernon, B.C., Canada, 5099 Maduras were produced.
Features
The Madura had a V-four engine with hydraulic-lifters. The lifters reduced maintenance, and avoided the kind of cam-wear problems that plagued the Magna. Despite displacing 100 cc more, the Madura didn't make much more horsepower or torque than the Magna. The Madura was factory rated at 117hp, while the Magna was rated at 116hp. Actual horsepower in a road-tested bike was found to be about 89. For comparison, a same year V65 put down 93hp.
In addition to the maintenance-free lifters, the Madura had a self-adjusting hydraulically actuated clutch, and a low-maintenance, shaft final drive. The rear suspension was a sophisticated monoshock arrangement that used a single rear swingarm tube to carry the driveshaft as well.
Ergonomically, the Madura featured a low, scooped seat, swept-back handle-bars, and foot-controls that wouldn't be considered "forward" by later standards, but at the time were noted for being 14" ahead of the center of the seat.
Speed
According to Cycle magazine, the 1200 cc Madura completed the 1/4-mile in 11.753 seconds at 115.08 mph. For comparison, on the same day the V65 Magna ran 11.86 at 115.86mph
Cycle Guide recorded an 11.36 at 117.18 1/4 mile. while their Magna clocked 11.44 at 118.42
Motorcyclist clocked a corrected 11.47 at 117.6 with the GV1200 Madura.
Cycle World magazine reported the 700 cc Madura doing the 1/4-mile in 12.89 seconds at 102.68 mph.
The Name
"Madura" is an island, a people and a language. It also means "mature" in Spanish. The characteristicly serpentine dagger known universally as a Madura was produced by the island's natives and was likely the inspiration for this motorcycle's name as it's unique curved stepped seat and smoothly flowing lines resemble this knife. Also the knife was often used in passion in a swift surprise attack defending honor.
The Madura may have been named after the bull racing popular on the island. Riding these animals was most likely similarly exhilarating.

Tube Bending is a metalworking process used to permanently form stock tubing in to the shape of a die. Straight tube stock can be formed using a bending machine to create a variety of single or multiple bends and to shape the piece into the desired form. This process can be used to form complex shapes out of different types of ductile metal tubing..

The picture is piping on an air condition system. Note that the bend kinks a little at the elbow, didn't use an elaborate mandral.

Shown is a trombone, it displays some U-bends

Process
The process of Tube Bending involves using mechanical force to push stock material pipe or tubing against a die, forcing the pipe or tube to conform to the shape of the die. Often, stock tubing is held firmly in place while the end is rotated and rolled around the die. Other forms of processing including pushing stock through rollers that bend it into a simple curve. For some tube bending processing, a mandrel is placed inside the tube to prevent collapsing. The tube is also held in tension by a wiper die to prevent any creasing during stress. A wiper die is usually made of a softer alloy i.e. aluminum, brass to avoid scratching or damaging the material being bent.
Tubing Geometry
A straight cylindrical tube can be transformed into a vast variety of shapes depending upon the needed application. A tube can be bent in multiple directions and angles. Although a single die can produce various shapes, it cannot shape other tube sizes and make different bend radii. Common simple bends consist of elbow (2-90 degrees), and U-bends. Complex bends include helical and coiled (more than one wrapping revolution), complex two-dimensional, and complex three dimensional bends as well. One side effect on the workpiece as a result of this process is the deformation of the wall thickness. The wall along the inner radius of the tube becomes thicker and the outer wall becomes thinner, depending on the tension in the tubing, the workpiece material, and the radius of the bend.
Tubing Specifications
Tube diameter can vary from 1/4" - 8" or approximately 6.3 mm - 203 mm. The cross section generally consists of a thin-wall with wall thickness varying from 0.031" - 0.375" or approximately 0.79 mm - 9.5 mm.
Mandrel Style
In production of a product where the bend is not critical a plug mandrel can be used. A form type tapers the end of the mandrel to provide more support in the bend of the tube. When precise bending is needed a ball mandrel (or ball mandrel with steel cable) should be used. The conjoined ball-like disks are inserted into the tubing to allow for bending while maintaining the same diameter throughout. Other styles include using sand, cerrobend, or frozen water2. These allow for a somewhat constant diameter while providing an inexpensive alternative to the aforementioned styles.
Process Results
There are several factors that effect the process results:- Workpiece material - Stainless steel, mild steel, copper, brass, aluminum, titanium, etc.- Bend geometry- Lubrication - type and quality- Sturdiness of workholding methods- Rigidity of actual bending equipment- Surface finish of holding tools
Tool Materials
Much of the tooling is made of hardened steel or tooled steel to maintain and prolong the tools life. However wherever there is a concern of scratching or gouging the work piece, a softer material such as aluminum or bronze is utilized. For example, the clamping block, rotating form block and pressure die are often formed from the hardened steel because the tubing is not moving past these parts of the machine. On the other hand, the pressure die and the wiping die are formed from aluminum or bronze to maintain the shape and surface of the workpiece as it slides by.
Power Requirements
The power required to bend the tubing is directly dependent on the tubing's material, diameter, and wall thickness. For a wall thickness of 0.035 inches and a tubing material of aluminum the typical power requirements range from 4 to 80 foot-pounds. While steel tubing from of the same thickness typically requires power in the range between 12 and 245 foot-pounds.
Calculations
To calculate the speed at which a particular bend can be made in the workpiece, one must utilize the following formula where ? is the angle of the bend (in degrees) and R is the rate of the bend (in degrees per second).Speed = ?/R

Cellophane noodles (also known as Chinese vermicelli, bean threads, bean thread noodles, or glass noodles) are a type of transparent Asian noodle made from starch (such as mung bean starch, sweet potato, potato, cassava or canna starch), and water.
They are generally sold in dried form, boiled to reconstitute, then used in soups, stir fried dishes, or spring rolls. They are called "cellophane noodles" or "glass noodles" because of their appearance when dried, resembling cellophane, a clear material or a translucent light gray or brownish-gray color.photo
Cellophane noodles are generally round, and are available in various thicknesses. Wide, flat cellophane noodle sheets called mung bean sheets are also produced in China.
Cellophane noodles should not be confused with rice vermicelli, which are made from rice and are white in color rather than clear.

In China
Naming
In Chinese, the most commonly used names are:
f?n s? (??): with f?n meaning "powder" and s? meaning "thread"
d?ng f?n (??): with the literal meaning of "winter powder"
They are also marketed under the name saifun, the Cantonese pronunciation of the Mandarin x f?n (??; literally "slender powder"), though the name fan2 si1 (??) is the term most often used in Cantonese.
Production
In China, the primary site of production of cellophane noodles is the town of Zhangxing, in the city of Zhaoyuan (???), which is administered by the prefecture-level city of Yantai, in the eastern province of Shandong. However, historically, the noodles were shipped through the port of Longkou (which is also under the administration of Yantai), and thus the noodles are known and marketed as Longkou fensi (simplified: ????; traditional: ????).
Use

Cellophane noodles have a clear see-through color when cooked. It is generally much longer than rice vermicelli.
In China, cellophane noodles are usually made of mung bean starch and are a popular ingredient used in stir fries, soups, and particularly hot pots. They can also be used as an ingredient in fillings for a variety of Chinese jiaozi (dumplings) and bing (flatbreads), especially in vegetarian versions of these dishes. Thicker cellophane noodles are also commonly used to imitate the appearance and texture of shark's fin in vegetarian soups. Thicker varieties, most popular in China's northeast, are used in stir fries as well as cold salad-like dishes. A popular soup using the ingredient is fried tofu with thin noodles (??????; pinyin: ydfu-xif?nt?ng). A popular Sichuan dish called ants climbing a tree (????; mayishangshu) consists of stewed cellophane noodles with a spicy ground pork meat sauce.
Health concerns
In 2004, testing by Chinese authorities determined that some brands of cellophane noodles produced in Yantai, Shandong were contaminated with lead. It emerged that several unscrupulous companies were making their noodles from cornstarch instead of mung beans in order to save costs, and, to make the cornstarch transparent, were adding lead-based whiteners to their noodles. In December 2006, Beijing authorities again inspected cellophane noodles produced by the Yantai Deshengda Longkou Vermicelli Co. Ltd. in Siduitou village, Zhangxing town, Zhaoyuan city, Yantai, this time determining that sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, a toxic and possibly carcinogenic industrial bleach which is an illegal food additive in China, had been used in the production of the noodles. The company, which formerly sold its noodles both in China as well as overseas, was ordered to cease production and distribution.
Outside China
In Indonesian cuisine, they are called soun or suun, and in Malaysia they are known as tanghoon. Sometimes, people confuse them with bihun which are rice vermicelli.
In Japanese cuisine, they are called harusame (??), literally "spring rain." Unlike Chinese glass noodles, they are usually made from potato starch. They are commonly...(and so on)

Roots of the Name, Momo
The name Momo is derived from River Momo, which runs through the division, crossing the Mamfe-Bamenda Road at Mile 71.
Education and Schools
Mbengwi has a lot of schools of which one of the biggest is Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Mbengw. It also has other schools like Government Techinical High School (GTHS) and St. Joseph Catolic Comprehensive College (SJCCC) . Most Schools in Mbengwi are boarding schools which means most students live in the schools during the school year.
Most government schools have to take an exam called GCE at the end of the 5 years in college. The 2008 GCE results could be found on the Cameroon post website
Son of the soil
Solomom Tadeng Muna one of the architects of Cameroon history hails from the metta clan. His residence is just a few kilometres in a near by village called Ngyen-Mbo between Bamenda and Mbengwi.
Controversy
He fuelled the construction of the prison in Mbengwi. A thing people have always frowned on and termed it as a mockery to his own people. Recently in January 2006 on the commemoration of the 4th anniversary of his death his children defended his idea of a prison saying the main objective was to see how juvenile and other inmates could be reformed.
Natural Resources
Oil Palm. Arguably, the most potent natural product of Momo Division is palm oil and concomitant products. Although the division boasts no palm plantations of the calibre present in the fertile zone at the foot of Mount Cameroon, there is an abundance of wild groves of oil palm trees that supply a substantial portion of the palm oil consumed in the North West Province. Most of the oil originates in Ngie Sub-Division.
Coffee and Cocoa. These are also some of the principal agricultural products originating in Momo Division.
Kolanuts. This is also one of the leading cash crops produced in Momo Division.

Merge Laser printer and LED printer into Page printer.
Move How it Works section into Xerography.
Move Secret marks section to Printer forensics.
Expand the lead in, create History section, Applications section and Technology section.
Under Technology, include sub-sections on imaging (LED, laser), fuser types (thermal, flash, etc.), feed types (cassette, MP, tractor]], imager types (belt, drum) and color.

???? ??????? ?????
I follow your reasoning, but think Laser printer should stay where it is, and the other two should redirect to it, simply because "laser printer" is by far the commonest name. (Yes, LED is strictly speaking not a laser printer, but it is a variant on the same technology and should be noted as such).
I also don't think it would be wise to move the How it works and Secret marks sections entirely to other pages, rather there should be a simple paragraph explaining the basic function with a Main article: link at the top. (Perhaps this is in fact what you mean.)
Yes, the history section needs to be bigger; I wrote much of it a while ago, but while others have improved upon it, it has not been significantly expanded. Pictures of early models might help.
Agree on your suggestion about Technology, but remember that I think the whole article should stay at Laser printer. ProhibitOnions 16:58, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Laser printers and ozone?
I recently bought a home laser printer. And little did I know, the strange smell coming from the printer as pages were spitting out of it was ozone. (my eyes are all red, and the air feels heavy) I think ozone being released from laser printers/copiers should be noted in this entry, because had I known that laser printers release ozone, I would have had second thoughts about picking up a laser printer. And although I am sure that consumer education isn't the direct intent of wikipedia, it's still significant to note because thousands of laser printers/copiers are being employed and used everyday. What do you guys think? comment by Stoppedcode12 on 26 Nov 2006
Perhaps, but you have either a maladjusted unit (and probably reduced image quality as a result) or you have placed it in a room that is not adequately ventilated for the printing rate you are achieving. Pzavon 16:10, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Most modern laser printers produce very little ozone, since they use a charge roller in lieu of a corona to charge the photoconductor, and use a charged transfer roller in lieu of a corona to transfer the image to the paper. The melting of the (usually) styrene resin in the toner can produce a bit of odor, especially if there is minimal air circulation in the room, and the printed page has a particularly large amount of printed area. The manufacturer's specs will usually divulge the amount of ozone that a particular laser printer...(and so on)

Long block is an automotive term describing an engine sub-assembly consisting of the following:
Short block. The long block is always a superset of the corresponding short block.
Cylinder head. A complete new or remanufactured cylinder head assembly is installed with a new head gasket and torqued to specification. Complete cylinder heads include new or reconditioned valves, valve springs, valve guides (if applicable), valve seats (if applicable), valve locks, and valve keepers. The bare head is free from cracks, warps, or holes.
If the engine is a flathead, then the valve train is installed if the short block did not already have it.
On most engines, the camshaft will be installed. On many engines with timing gears, the camshaft will be timed. A Long block engine replacement will typically require swapping out parts from the original engine to the long block. These parts include the intake manifold, the exhaust manifold, Alternator, Power steering pump, if any, and Air conditioner compressor, if any are installed in the vehicle.

Trip valve mechanisms are a class of steam engine valve gear developed to improve efficiency. The trip mechanism allows the inlet valve to be closed rapidly, giving a short, sharp cut-off. The valve itself can be a drop valve or a Corliss valve.
Trip valve gear was applied to larger stationary engines. It was not used in transport applications,[ft 1] as it was not suitable for high speed.
The trip point of the valve mechanism, and therefore the cut-off, would be adjusted either manually or automatically by the governor. The valve is opened by the mechanical valve gear mechanism, and when the trip gear trigger releases the mechanism the valve is snapped closed, usually by a spring acting against a dashpot.

Basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS, BOF, Linz-Donawitz-Verfahren, LD-converter) is a method of primary steelmaking in which carbon-rich molten pig iron is made into steel. The LD-converter is named after the Austrian placenames Linz and Donawitz (a district of Leoben). The vast majority of steel manufactured in the world is produced using the basic oxygen furnace. Modern furnaces will take a charge of iron of up to 350 tons and convert it into steel in less than 40 minutes. The LD converter is a refined version of the Bessemer converter where blowing of air is replaced with blowing oxygen.
Blowing oxygen through molten pig iron lowers the carbon content of the alloy and changes it into low-carbon steel.
The process is known as basic due to the pH of the refractories - calcium oxide and magnesium oxide - that line the vessel to withstand the high temperature of molten metal.

Process
The basic oxygen steel-making process is as follows:
Molten iron from a blast furnace is poured into a large refractory-lined container called a ladle;
The metal in the ladle is sent directly for basic oxygen steelmaking or to a pretreatment stage. Pretreatment of the blast furnace metal is used to reduce the refining load of sulfur, silicon, and phosphorus. In desulfurising pre treatment, a lance is lowered into the molten iron in the ladle and several hundred kilograms of powdered magnesium are added. Sulfur impurities are reduced to magnesium sulfide in a violent exothermic reaction. The sulfide is then raked off. Similar pretreatment is possible for desiliconisation and dephosphorisation using mill scale(iron oxide) and lime as reagents. The decision to pretreat depends on the quality of the blast furnace metal and the required final quality of the BOS steel.
Filling the furnace with the ingredients is called charging. The BOS process is autogenous: the required thermal energy is produced during the process. Maintaining the proper charge balance, the ratio of hotmetal to scrap, is therefore very important. The BOS vessel is one-fifth filled with steel scrap. Molten iron from the ladle is added as required by the charge balance. A typical chemistry of hotmetal charged into the BOS vessel is: 4% C, 0.2-0.8%Si, 0.08%-0.18%P, and 0.01-0.04%S.
The vessel is then set upright and a water-cooled lance is lowered down into it. The lance blows 99% pure oxygen onto the steel and iron, igniting the carbon dissolved in the steel and burning it to form carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, causing the temperature to rise to about 1700 . This melts the scrap, lowers the carbon content of the molten iron and helps remove unwanted chemical elements. It is this use of oxygen instead of air that improves upon the Bessemer process, for the nitrogen (and other gases) in air do not react with the charge as oxygen does.High purity oxygen is blown into the furnace or BOS vessel through a vertically oriented water-cooled lance with velocities faster than Mach 1.
Fluxes (burnt lime or dolomite) are fed into the vessel to form slag which absorbs impurities of the steelmaking process. During blowing the metal in the vessel forms an emulsion with the slag, facilitating the refining process. Near the end of the blowing cycle, which takes about 20 minutes, the temperature is measured and samples are taken. The samples are tested and a computer analysis of the steel given within six minutes. A typical chemistry of the blown metal is 0.3-0.6%C, 0.05-0.1%Mn, .01-0.03%Si, 0.01-0.03%S and P.
The BOS vessel is tilted again and the steel is poured into a giant ladle. This process is called tapping the steel. The steel is further refined in the ladle furnace, by adding alloying materials to give the steel special properties required by the customer. Sometimes argon or nitrogen gas is bubbled into the ladle to make sure the alloys mix correctly. The steel now contains 0.1-1% carbon. The more carbon in the steel, the harder it is, but it is also more brittle and less flexible.
After the steel is removed from the BOS vessel, the slag, filled with impurities, is poured off and cooled.
History
The first basic oxygen steelmaking process was the LD process developed in 1952 by voestalpine AG in Linz, Austria. Some major steelmaking companies in the US did not convert to this process for some years, with the last Bessemer converter still operating commercially until 1968. The LD process replaced both the previously common Siemens-Martin process, also known as the open-hearth process, and the Bessemer process. European companies replaced open hearth furnaces with BOF rapidly after WWII, but US companies were reluctant to give up the old and tried open hearths. The first company in the U.S. to use this type of furnace was McLouth Steel in Trenton, Michigan.

The first stage of a typical POST operation.

The second stage of a POST.
Power-on self-test (POST) is the common term for a computer, router or printer's pre-boot sequence. The same basic sequence is present on all computer architectures. It is the first step of the more general process called initial program load (IPL), booting, or bootstrapping. The term POST has become popular in association with and as a result of the proliferation of the PC. It can be used as a noun when referring to the code that controls the pre-boot phase or when referring to the phase itself. It can also be used as a verb when referring to the code or the system as it progresses through the pre-boot phase. Alternatively this may be called "POSTing."

General internal workings
On power up, the main duties of POST are handled by the BIOS, which may hand some of these duties to other programs designed to initialize very specific peripheral devices, notably for video and SCSI initialization. These other duty-specific programs are generally known collectively as option ROMs or individually as the video BIOS, SCSI BIOS, etc.
The principal duties of the main BIOS during POST are as follows:
verify the integrity of the BIOS code itself
find, size, and verify system main memory
discover, initialize, and catalog all system buses and devices
pass control to other specialized BIOSes (if and when required)
provide a user interface for system's configuration
identify, organize, and select which devices are available for booting
construct whatever system environment that is required by the target OS
The BIOS will begin its POST duties when the CPU is reset. The first memory location the CPU tries to execute is known as the reset vector. In the case of a hard reboot, the northbridge will direct this code fetch (request) to the BIOS located on the system flash memory. For a warm boot, the BIOS will be located in the proper place in RAM and the northbridge will direct the reset vector call to the RAM.
During the POST flow of a contemporary BIOS, one of the first things a BIOS should do is determine the reason it is executing. For a cold boot, for example, it may need to execute all of its functionality. If, however, the system supports power savings or quick boot methods, the BIOS may be able to circumvent the standard POST device discovery, and simply program the devices from a preloaded system device table.
The POST flow for the PC has developed from a very simple, straightforward process to one that is complex and convoluted. During POST, the BIOS must integrate a plethora of competing, evolving, and even mutually exclusive standards and initiatives for the matrix of hardware and OSes the PC is expected to support. However, the average user still knows the POST and BIOS only through its simple visible memory tests and setup screen.
Fundamental structure
In the case of the IBM PC compatible machines, the main BIOS is divided into two basic sections. The POST section, or POST code, is responsible for the tasks mentioned above, and the environment POST constructs for the OS is known as the runtime code, the runtime BIOS, or the runtime footprint. Primarily these two divisions can be distinguished in that POST code should be flushed from memory before control is passed to the target OS while the runtime code remains resident in memory. This division may be a misleading oversimplification, however, as many Runtime functions are executed while the system is POSTing.
Error reporting

BIOS POST card for ISA bus
The original IBM BIOS reported errors detected during POST by outputting a number to a fixed I/O port address, 80. Using a logic analyzer or a dedicated POST card, an interface card that shows port 80 output on a small display, a technician could determine the origin of the problem. (Note that once an operating system is running on the computer, the code displayed by such a board is often meaningless, since some OSes, e.g. Linux, use port 80 for I/O timing operations.) In later years, BIOS vendors used a sequence of beeps from the motherboard-attached loudspeaker to signal error codes.
Original IBM POST error codes
1 short beep - Normal POST - system is OK
2 short beeps - POST error - error code shown on screen
No beep - Power supply, system board problem, disconnected cpu, or...(and so on)

Early life and career
Lewis was born in the small farming settlement of Freetown, Virginia, a granddaughter of an emancipated slave who helped start the community. She was one of eight children. She left Freetown at age 16, after her father died, and moved to Washington and eventually to New York City.. When she arrived in New York, an acquaintance found her a job in a Brooklyn laundry, where she was assigned to an ironing board. She had never ironed and lasted three hours before she was dismissed. She soon found work as a seamstress, and copied Christian Dior dresses for Dorcas Avedon, then the wife of Richard Avedon. She made a dress for Marilyn Monroe, as well as the African-inspired dresses for which she became well-known. .
She also worked for the communist newspaper The Daily Worker, was involved in political demonstrations, and campaigned for Franklin D. Roosevelt..
Caf Nicholson and cookbook fame
In New York City, she married Steve Kingston, a retired merchant seaman and a communist. Shortly afterward, she met John Nicholson, an antiques dealer who in 1949 decided to open a restaurant on 58th Street, on the East Side of Manhattan. She became the cook, preparing cheese souffl and roast chicken. Caf Nicholson became an instant success among bohemians and artists. The restaurant was frequented by William Faulkner, Marlon Brando, Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Gloria Vanderbilt, Marlene Dietrich, and Diana Vreeland. . Lewis remained at the restaurant until the late 1950s.
In the late 1960s, she broke her leg and was temporarily forced to stop cooking professionally. With encouragement from Judith Jones, the cookbook editor at Knopf who also edited Julia Child, she turned her handwritten pages into The Edna Lewis Cookbook (1972). This was followed by The Taste of Country Cooking in 1976. The book is considered a classic study of Southern cooking. In 1979, Craig Claiborne of The New York Times said the book "may well be the most entertaining regional cookbook in America.".
Early career at Cafe Nicholson
In 1949 Cafe Nicholson was located at ground level of a narrow brownstone dwellinon the downtown side of 52nd Street between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue. One entered on the right, direcly into a passageway separated from the kitchen by a screenwall of dark wood with openings above shoulder height that gave a view of the narrow kitchen, roughly 12 feet by 16 feet, having two windows facing 52nd street, and not much wall space to arrange cooking facilities. From that modest space miracles would appear! Most frequently Edna Lewis would be there to look up with greetings, dressed in something dark, and often with an Indian Paisley wrapped round her shoulders.
At the end of the short passageway was the Dining Room, roughly 18 feet by 35 feet. On the right was a dark wood buffet topped with white marble, stacked high with white china plates, glassware, flatware and nappery interspersed with wire baskets loaded with lemons and other comestibles and a tub or two of highstanding palms. To the left were the small bare marbletopped cafe tables and bentwood or wireframed chairs. A fine meal might begin with Mussels and herbed rice presented in their blue-blackshells on a white plate; then a perfectly roasted chicken, a simple salad of Boston Lettuce with a coating of lemon garlic ddressing, and completed with a dark brown puff of Chocolate souffle, containers of whipped cream and molten chocolate offered at the side. A veritable symphony of White and Brown served up in a room of Dark wood and White Marble.
At the back of the Dining room was a door leading out to the garden, a space of about 20 feet by 50 feet, furnished with more small tables and chairs similar to those seen inside. A famous photograph by Karl Bassinger shows the back of the browntone with a group of young New Yorkers becoming world famous in their separate careers. At this moment(late 2008) Gore Vidal may be the only surviving member of the photograph: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/25/arts/design/25bissinger.html?ref=arts
Subsequently Cafe Nicholson moved to the Studio located to the right of the on-ramp of the Queensboro Bridge on East 58th Street. For a time it was later located on the uptown side of 57th Street between Lexington Avenue and 3rd Avenue,
Later career
In a 1989 interview with The New York Times, Lewis said: "As a child in Virginia, I thought all food tasted delicious. After growing up, I didn't think food tasted the same, so it has...(and so on)

A contemporary Two Gray Hills Navajo rug

A transitional blanket, woven circa 1880-1885. The thick handspun yarns and synthetic dyes are typical of pieces made during the transition from blanket weaving to rug weaving, when more weavings were being sold to outsiders.
Navajo rugs and blankets are textiles produced by Navajo people (Navajo: Din) of the Four Corners area of the United States. Navajo textiles are highly regarded and have been sought after as trade items for over 150 years. Commercial production of handwoven blankets and rugs has been an important element of the Navajo economy. As one expert expresses it, "Classic Navajo serapes at their finest equal the delicacy and sophistication of any pre-mechanical loom-woven textile in the world."
Navajo textiles were originally utilitarian blankets for use as cloaks, dresses, saddle blankets, and similar purposes. Toward the end of the 19th century, weavers began to make rugs for tourism and export. Typical Navajo textiles have strong geometric patterns. They are a flat tapestry-woven textile produced in a fashion similar to kilims of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Traders from the late 19th and early 20th century encouraged adoption of some kilim motifs into Navajo designs.

Purpose
The original function of Navajo weaving was to produce clothing: "shoulder robes, rectangular panel or wrap-around-dresses, semi-tailored shirts, breechcloths, and a variety of belts, sashes, hair ties, and garters." The Navajo did not produce rugs until export markets expanded at the end of the 19th century, and their textiles served no specific religious or ceremonial function.
History

Canyon de Chelly, part of traditional Navajo territory, 1904
Pueblo influence
The Navajo may have learned to weave from their Pueblo Indian neighbors when they moved into the Four Corners region during the period from 1300 to 1500, though some experts contend that the Navajo were not weavers until after the 17th century. Navajo obtained cotton through local trade routes before the arrival of the Spanish, after which time they began to use wool. The Pueblo and Navajo were not generally on friendly terms due to frequent Navajo raids on Pueblo settlements, yet many Pueblo sought refuge with their Navajo neighbors in the late 17th century to evade the conquistadors in the aftermath of the Pueblo Revolt. This social interchange is the probable origin of the distinctive Navajo weaving tradition. Navajo people began to herd sheep from that time onward.
The extent of Pueblo influence on Navajo weaving is uncertain. As Wolfgang Haberland notes, "Prehistoric Puebloan textiles were much more elaborate than historic ones, as can be seen in the few remnants recovered archaeologically and in costumed figures in pre-contact kiva murals." Haberland suggests that the absence of surviving colonial-era Pueblo textile examples make it impossible to do more than conjecture about whether the creative origins of Navajo weaving arose from Navajo culture or were borrowed from the neighboring people.
Early records

Navajo winter hogan with blanket used as a door, 1880-1910
Written records establish the Navajo as fine weavers for at least the last 300 years, beginning with Spanish colonial descriptions of the early 18th century. By 1812, Pedro Pi?o called the Navajo the best weavers in the province. Few remnants of 18th-century Navajo weaving survive; the most important surviving examples of early Navajo weaving come from Massacre Cave at Canyon de Chelly, Arizona. In 1804, a group of Navajo were shot and killed there, where they were seeking refuge from Spanish soldiers. For a hundred years the cave remained untouched due to Navajo taboos until a local trader named Sam Day entered it and retrieved the textiles. Day separated the collection and sold it to various museums. The majority of Massacre Cave blankets feature plain stripes, yet some exhibit the terraces and diamonds characteristic of later Navajo weaving.
Wider commerce

Map of the Santa Fe trail in 1845

Chief's blanket, circa 1870-1880. Red is bayeta, unraveled red wool flannel. These costly wearing-blankets were very popular with Plains Indians.
Commerce expanded after the Santa Fe Trail opened in 1822, and greater numbers of examples survive. Until 1880, all such textiles were blankets as opposed to rugs. In 1850, these highly prized trade items sold for $50 in gold, a huge sum at that time.

History
In 1932, William Brooks, joined by his brother F. M. "Mike" Brooks, founded The William Brooks Shoe Company in Nelsonville, Ohio, about 60 miles southeast of Columbus. Both men had lost their jobs during the Great Depression when Godman Shoe Co. of Columbus went bankrupt.
In search of opportunity, the brothers set up shop in a rent-free factory with lent equipment and what would eventually become Rocky Brands was born.
The company originally employed 50 to 100 workers with a production rate of 300 pairs of shoes per day. With a newly-constructed addition and the installation of more equipment, by the mid-1930 the factory employed 225 people and production output increased to more than 2,000 pairs per day. During the 1940s and 1950s business continued to grow. While supplying more than one million pairs of shoes and boots for military conflicts such as World War II and the Korean War, the company built key relationships with leading footwear retailers.
But in 1958, William Brooks decided to sell the business to the Irving Drew Shoe Company of Lancaster, Ohio. His nephew, John Brooks, who had worked in the plant full-time since age 17, attempted to make a play for the family-run business, but his efforts were rebuffed. William Brooks refused point-blank to sell, telling his nephew the shoe industry had no future.
In 1975, the new owners were getting ready to unload or shut down the business. John Brooks, who stayed through the Irving Drew years as plant manager, bought the business back for $640,000, re-establishing The William Brooks Shoe Company in Nelsonville. John Brooks then brought his son, Mike Brooks, into the business as a product designer and manager. In 1977, Mike Brooks won an award for what now is called the original "Rocky boot," and the company soon paid $1,000 for a trademark and launched the Rocky brand.
As the company struggled in the early 1980s, the shoe market bounced back, and in 1983, the company began marketing occupational shoes, such as those worn by police officers and mail carriers, under the Rocky brand. It opened up new markets and new distribution methods. Sales rose and in 1988, the company reached $20 million in annual revenue.
Two years after the retirement of John Brooks in 1991, his son, Mike Brooks took the company public, spending nearly three-quarters of a million dollars in the process, changing the name to Rocky Shoes & Boots and initiating the company's initial public offering.
Rocky Shoes & Boots acquired EJ Footwear on December 6, 2004 for $87.7 million in cash and roughly $10 million in stock. The move brought Georgia Boot, Durango, and Lehigh Safety Shoes brands into Rocky's fold and added a licensed footwear brand in Dickies.
In 2006, Rocky Shoes & Boots changed its name to Rocky Brands, Inc. to reflect its growing portfolio. Following the name change Rocky Brands added comfort footwear Zumfoot shoes and Michelin footwear to its ranks.

Draught beer keg fonts at the Delirium Caf in Brussels
Draught beer (also known as draft beer or tap beer) has several related though slightly different understandings. The majority of references to draught beer are of filtered beer that has been served from a pressurised container, such as a keg or a widget can[citation needed]. A narrower meaning, beer that is served from a keg (or tap), but not from a can, bottle or cask, is also used. A more traditional definition is beer that is served from a large container, which could be either a keg or a cask. The different understandings may at times overlap and cause confusion. Some traditionalists object to the more modern use of the word when applied to canned beer. The slight usage differences of the term are due to the history and development of beer dispensing.

History of draught
Until Joseph Bramah patented the beer engine in 1785, beer was served directly from the cask and carried to the customer. The old English word for carry was dragen, from the German tragen, which developed into a series of related words, including drag, draw, and draught. By extension, the word for carrying or drawing a beer came to mean the serving of the beer and, in some senses, the act of drinking, or a drink of beer itself, regardless of serving method. By the time Bramah's beer pumps became popular, the use of the word draught to mean the act of serving beer was well established and transferred easily to beer served via the hand pumps.
In 1691, an article in the London Gazette mentioned John Lofting, who held a patent for a fire engine: "The said patentee has also projected a very useful engine for starting of beer, and other liquors which will draw from 20 to 30 barrels an hour, which are completely fixed with brass joints and screws at reasonable rates".
In the early 20th century, serving draught beer from pressurised containers began. Artificial carbonation was introduced in the United Kingdom in 1936, with Watney experimental pasteurised beer Red Barrel. Though this method of serving beer did not take hold in the U.K. until the late 1950s, it did become the favoured method in the rest of Europe, where it is known by such terms as en pression. The method of serving beer under pressure then spread to the rest of the world; by the early 1970s, draught beer was almost exclusively beer served under pressure.
Shortly after a British consumer organisation called the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) was founded, in 1971, to protect unpressurised beer, the group devised the term real ale to differentiate between beer served from the cask and beer served under pressure. By 2004, the term real ale had been expanded to include bottle-conditioned beer, while the term cask ale had become the accepted global term to indicate a beer not served under pressure.
Keg beer

A typical 11 Gallon keg with single opening in the centre of the top end
Keg beer is a term for beer which is served from a pressurized keg. While often considered synonymous to draught beer, keg beer refers specifically to beer served under pressure, while draught beer may refer to any beer served from a larger container, including both keg beer and cask ale. Keg beer is often filtered and/or pasteurized, both of which are processes that render the yeast inactive, increasing the shelf life of the product at the expense of flavor.
In brewing parlance, a keg is different from a cask. A cask has a tap hole near the edge of the top, and a spile hole on the side used for conditioning the unfiltered and unpasteurised beer. A keg has a single opening in the centre of the top to which a flow pipe is attached. Kegs are artificially pressurised after fermentation with carbon dioxide or a mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas.
Keg has become a term of contempt used by some since the 1960s as pasteurised draught beers were replacing traditional cask beers. The quality of the kegging process was not as good then as it is today, and sometimes the keg beers are referred to as Plastic Beer. Some people believed that chemicals (adjuncts) were used to create a foam head. These perceptions exist to this day.[citation needed]
Despite this consumer concern, keg beer was replacing traditional cask ale in all parts of the UK, primarily because it requires less care to handle. Since the mid-1970s, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has been conducting a successful[citation needed] consumer campaign which focused attention on those consumers who preferred traditional cask beer. As well as this CAMRA has lobbied the British Parliament successfully to ensure support for cask ale. New, small microbreweries have sprung up to serve those...(and so on)
